H.Self and Jill Johnson Honored at Americana Music Sweden Awards 2026

The Americana Music Sweden Awards returned for its second year, drawing leading figures from Sweden’s Americana community to Debaser Nova in Stockholm. The gala, which aims to recognize outstanding achievements within the genre, saw a host of artists and organizations acknowledged for their contributions to the music industry.
One of the standout moments of the evening was the recognition of H.Self, who received both the Artist of the Year and the Nordic Prize. This dual recognition positioned H.Self as one of the night’s significant winners, reflecting a year of notable achievement and influence within the Swedish and Nordic Americana scenes. While specific works or performances that earned these accolades were not detailed, the awards underscore H.Self’s current impact in the genre.
Jill Johnson was awarded the evening’s honorary prize, in acknowledgment of her role in shaping and bringing credibility to country music in Sweden. The awards committee emphasized her influence in making the genre feel accessible and rooted in Swedish music culture. Johnson’s presence was made more memorable by a surprise live performance, a highlight that delighted attendees, even as the setlist and further details of her appearance were not disclosed.
The program also spotlighted other major contributors: Jesper Lindell Trio was named Group of the Year, while Sarah Klang received the award for Music Release of the Year for her acclaimed album “Beautiful Woman.” Mira Ray emerged as the Breakthrough of the Year, and the respected Stockholm venue Twang took home the Organizer of the Year award, recognizing its contribution to supporting live Americana music.
Live performances were an essential part of the celebration. Along with Jill Johnson, artists such as Södra Norrlands Coast Country Cowboys, Mira Ray, The Jems, Stella Adee, The Settlers of Småland, and Malin Verheij took the stage, providing a broad showcase of the genre’s diversity. Daniel Hollow also featured, performing an interpretation of H.Self’s music, further honoring one of the gala’s headline winners. Hosting duties fell to Eva Karman, chair of the Swedish Independent Music Producers, who guided the evening’s proceedings.
Earlier in the day, an industry-oriented conference provided an opportunity for American students to interact with representatives from Sweden’s music sector. Speakers included Micke Lindevall, concert manager and Debaser co-founder, music supervisor Li Stanley of Rush Hour Music Supervision, and film producer Åke Lundström.
