Thom Yorke plans new solo album for 2026
Thom Yorke, the renowned frontman of Radiohead, has recently revealed plans to release his fourth solo album later in 2026. This announcement was confirmed by his bandmate, guitarist Ed O'Brien, during an interview where he discussed his own projects and the band's future.
According to O'Brien, Radiohead functions as a "mothership" supporting the individual endeavors of its members. He mentioned that Yorke plans to release his solo album later this year, which would be his first since "Anima" in 2019. Since then, Yorke has been involved in several other projects, including film scores for "Suspiria" (2018) and "Confidenza" (2024), a collaborative album with Mark Pritchard, "Tall Tales" (2025), and producing Clark's album "Sus" (2023).
This development has sparked significant interest among Radiohead fans, especially considering the band's recent period of silence. While the members have been busy with their own projects, there have been no new Radiohead releases since "A Moon Shaped Pool" in 2016. O'Brien mentioned that the band plans to resume their global tour with 20 shows per year, starting in 2027, following their recent European residency shows.
In addition to his solo ventures, Yorke has been part of The Smile, a side project with Radiohead colleague Jonny Greenwood and drummer Tom Skinner. The Smile released their debut album "A Light for Attracting Attention" in 2022 and has continued to explore new musical territories. In June 2023, they released the single "Bending Hectic," recorded at Abbey Road Studios and produced by Sam Petts-Davies, who had previously worked with Yorke on "Suspiria."
With these ongoing and upcoming projects, 2026 looks set to be an eventful year for Thom Yorke and his musical career. Fans are eager to hear his new solo album and follow his continued development as an artist.
