Apocalyptica Pays Tribute to Metallica at Sweden Rock Festival 2025

On the sunny afternoon of June 6, 2025, thousands of festival-goers gathered at the Festival Stage of Sweden Rock Festival in Norje to witness a unique musical experience. The Finnish symphonic metal band Apocalyptica, known for their cello-based interpretations of metal music, was set to perform a set dedicated to Metallica.
Formed in 1993 in Helsinki, Apocalyptica gained prominence with their debut album "Plays Metallica by Four Cellos" in 1996. The album consisted solely of Metallica covers performed on cellos and became an unexpected success. Nearly three decades later, in 2024, the band released the follow-up "Plays Metallica, Vol. 2", once again showcasing their ability to reinterpret Metallica's music in a unique way.
The concert began with a powerful rendition of "Ride the Lightning", followed by classics like "Creeping Death" and "For Whom the Bell Tolls". The band's skilled handling of the cellos and their ability to make the instruments mimic electric guitars impressed the audience. During "Enter Sandman", the stage was graced by Adam Grahn from Royal Republic, whose vocal contribution further elevated the atmosphere.
The setlist continued with songs like "St. Anger", "The Four Horsemen", and "Blackened", before concluding with an emotional interpretation of "One". Apocalyptica's performance demonstrated their deep respect for Metallica's music and their ability to transform it into something uniquely their own.
Sweden Rock Festival 2025 offered many memorable moments, but Apocalyptica's tribute to Metallica stood out as one of the most unique and appreciated. Their ability to blend classical music with metal in this manner continues to fascinate and inspire music lovers worldwide.
